New York Giants wide receiver Darius Slayton joined his teammates for OTAs this week after skipping the earlier portions of the voluntary offseason program. As we might have expected, Slayton didn’t do that just because he felt like running around at some voluntary practices.
Slayton, in the final year of a two-year, $12 million contract, reportedly had $650K in incentives added to his contract for 2024. That means Slayton can now earn as much as $2.15 million in incentives.
“I’m satisfied. We got what we needed to get done. Just looking forward to getting back to playing ball,” Slayton said. “We just adjusted my contract this year a little bit. Just try to make it a little more lucrative. But business is business, and I’m here.”
“It’s good for him to be back,” said head coach Brian Daboll. “Again, it’s voluntary, so glad he decided to come.”
Slayton, 27, had a typically consistent season in 2023 with 50 receptions for 770 yards. Slayton has caught between 46 and 50 passes for more than 700 yards in four of his five NFL seasons.
Dan Duggan of The Athletic offered more clarity on what Slayton needs to do to reach the incentives that were in his contract prior to this adjustment:
For Slayton to max out his existing $1.5M incentives, he’d need to reach 70 catches, 1K yards and 10 TDs. So if this additional $650K is on top of those, he’s going to need to have a BIG year to earn more money. Also possible that the existing incentives were just adjusted. Will… https://t.co/nP83eTssPb

Slayton might have hope for a contract extension, but this is at least a small token from the Giants’ organization that gives him some opportunity to earn more money.
The Giants hope Slayton, first-round pick Malik Nabers, 2023 third-round pick Jalin Hyatt and 2022 second-round pick Malik Nabers will form the core of what they hope will be the best receiving group of the Daniel Jones era as Giants’ quarterback.
